Overview

The Botswana Institute for Technology Research and Innovation (BITRI) is a technology research and innovation institute mandated to undertake research and to identify, develop, adapt and advance appropriate technologies that respond to Botswana’s national priorities and needs.

BITRI invites suitably qualified and interested candidates to apply for the following position within the Nanomaterials Division, Natural Resources and Materials Department:

Senior Researcher – Nanomaterials (1 Position)

Main Purpose of the Job

To lead the planning and implementation of research and development (R&D) projects in nanomaterials, including the adaptation and enhancement of existing technologies and the development of new technologies and innovative solutions aligned with BITRI and national priorities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead R&D projects in nanomaterials, from concept and feasibility through development and validation.
  • Design, synthesise, characterise and evaluate nanomaterials for targeted applications.
  • Develop, adapt and enhance nanomaterial-based technologies and innovative solutions.
  • Translate research outputs into proofs of concept, prototypes and scalable technologies.
  • Produce scientific publications, technical reports and intellectual property outputs.
  • Establish research partnerships and contribute to research funding and resource mobilisation.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship and supervision to research teams.
  • Support technology transfer, commercialisation and industry uptake of research outputs.

Qualifications

A PhD in Chemistry, Material or Polymer Science.

Experience and Working Knowledge

At least 10 years of research experience with proven knowledge in Materials Science. The experience must include at least 4 years of programme management exposure.

Demonstrate proficiency in research through product development and successful external funding.

Technical Competences

  • Knowledge of R&D practices, principles, processes, procedures etc.
  • Good international perspective gained either through working overseas or working for an internationally focused R&D Organisation in Botswana.
