
Position: Board Member
Dr James T. P. Matshwele has been appointed Board Member of the Botswana Institute for Technology Research and Innovation (BITRI) with effect from the 1st of July 2025.
Dr. Matshwele is an academic at the University of Botswana and former Head of Applied Sciences at Botho University. He is a scientist, academic, and research leader whose work spans advanced materials, energy technologies, and drug discovery. He has played a leading role in developing science programs that support national priorities. His experience includes building interdisciplinary research teams, driving collaboration between institutions, and advancing innovation through research.
Dr. Matshwele is a member of the Botswana Academy of Science, the Chemical Society of Botswana and active in both local and international scientific networks, where he provides mentorship to emerging researchers.
Dr. Matshwele holds a PhD in Chemistry and over 20 peer-reviewed publications. His research contributes directly to Botswana’s strategic goals in industrialization, sustainable development, and health innovation. His core mission is to contribute to a Botswana driven by homegrown scientific excellence, with a strong commitment to industrialization by Batswana, for Botswana.
