Solar Energy Living Lab

The Solar Energy Living Lab serves as a hub for testing, research, and collaboration in renewable energy. It provides compliance assessments, technology validation, and real-environment prototype trials supported by localized climate data. The centre drives innovation through user-centred design, behavioural research, and industry co-creation, while also offering training, policy support, and knowledge-sharing platforms. As a networking and development hub, it empowers stakeholders and local entrepreneurs to accelerate solar adoption in Botswana

Compliance Assessment: Verification of solar thermal products against ISO and Botswana Standards (BOS) requirements.

Technology Testing & Validation: Independent performance and durability testing of solar thermal collectors, storage systems, and hybrid technologies.

Prototype Trialling: Allowing startups and manufacturers to install prototypes on-site for real-environment validation.

Meteorological Data Integration: Providing localized solar irradiation, temperature, and humidity datasets for product optimization.

User-Centred Design Workshops: Bringing together engineers, policymakers, investors, and community members to co-design solar thermal and photovoltaic (PV) applications.

Behavioural Research: Studying user adoption, affordability, and cultural acceptance of solar energy solutions.

Design Feedback Loops: Early-stage collaboration with industry to refine products before mass-market deployment.

Training & Capacity Building: Training for technicians, engineers, and students on solar systems.

Policy Advisory Support: Providing evidence-based data to government on renewable energy policies and standards.

Knowledge Sharing Platforms: Publishing open-access reports, technical bulletins, and best-practice guides for national and regional stakeholders.

Networking Hub: Hosting workshops, hackathons, and conferences to bring together industry, academia, and communities.

Community Development Initiatives: Supporting local entrepreneurs in solar-related businesses (installation, maintenance, innovation).
