The Botswana Institute for Technology Research and Innovation (BITRI) is a national research centre where ideas meet practical solutions. Established in 2012 under the Ministry of Communications and Innovation, we exist to turn research into real-world technologies that truly make a difference to the lives of Batswana.
Our mission is to create home-grown, sustainable innovations that address national priorities, maximise the use of local resources, and deliver lasting impact. From concept to delivery, we work hand-in-hand with communities, industry, and research partners to ensure every solution we develop is relevant, affordable, and transformative.
With our headquarters at Maranyane House in Gaborone, and campuses in Kanye and Palapye, BITRI is shaping a future where technology is not merely imported – it is designed and developed in Botswana, for Botswana.

Our First Flagship Products
We introduced our first innovations — Seding solar lights in renewable energy, the Morabaraba mobile game in ICT, and the KSSB brick in materials science.
